Take off the bluetooth!!!

April 9th, 2008

Ok, I just got back from the gym and I have a little something that I want to get off my chest.  Now for those who know me, I have made it clear a number of times that I’m not a super huge fan of those bluetooth headsets that are all the rage these days.  Well today I saw something that just made me want to puke.   I saw a lady working out with her bluetooth headset on.   Now come on lady, is there really a call that is that important that you can’t just put your phone in your pocket or something?  It drives me crazy that people wear these things all the damn time when it really isn’t necessary.  Don’t get me wrong I certainly understand the purpose of the headsets, heck I even have one myself, but I don’t get the desire to wear the thing 24×7.   It’s pure insanity I tell you.

Got to stop being lazy

April 1st, 2008

Well I broke my vow to stay on top of my gym workouts. I let 4 days go by and didn’t exercise at all. I went to Capoeira class last night and man did I pay for my laziness. I felt totally out of shape. It’s amazing what a few days off will do to you. I’m going to get back on track though and continue to work hard.

Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow from G.I. Joe Movie

March 21st, 2008

Here’s a drawing of these two great characters from the upcoming movie. Ray Park is playing Snake Eyes. I wonder who’s going to get the part of Storm Shadow.

The long road ahead

March 10th, 2008

Well I figured I should write a little bit about what’s going on in my world at the moment.  I’m still loving my journey in the wonderful world of Capoeira.  It’s so much fun and a great workout which I so desperately need.  I’m learning a lot.  I got my very first berimbau.  I’m starting to get the hang of it a bit although I need a lot more practice.  For such a simple instrument it is a bit tricky to learn.   I really want to get good with it as it is the heart of Capoeira.  I’m going to have to work on getting more practice in.  I also started going to the gym.  Back in the day I used to work out quite a bit but I’ve really let myself go since then.  So far I’ve been doing pretty good about going regularly.   I haven’t missed more than one day at a time.  Right now I’m trying not to make my workouts to hard that way I don’t get burnt out.  I’ve been doing this machine lately, I don’t know how to describe it.   It’s kinda like a skiing machine.  It’s been a pretty good workout.  I’m going to try and mix it up with doing that one day and lifting so weights the next.  If I can stay consistent I hope to drop some serious pounds by this summer.

I’m a narc

January 27th, 2008

To the asshole that I just saw at the store.   I narc’ed on you.  Yeah that’s right.   I can’t believe you would just stick stuff in your bag with me standing right there in front of you.   I don’t care that we are ‘brothers’.  What you did was wrong and I hope you get what you deserve.

Salt Lake Capoeira

January 19th, 2008

I had the honor and pleasure to hang out with Mestrando Jamaika and his students this past Wed. I had a really good time and learned a few things I didn’t know. I admit that I was a little nervous as the students there are very very good. I had seen some of their moves on YouTube but seeing them in person was unbelievable.  Everyone was great though and welcomed me with open arms. I played in a couple of rodas and got to chat with some of his top students. They even helped me out with finding a Capoeira song that I have but had no idea what the name of it was and where to find it. I hope I get to head out their way again and play. It was so much fun I don’t think I have enough words to describe it. :-)

Hulu

December 18th, 2007

Yesterday I finally received my invitation to hulu.com.  I remember signing up for this a couple of months ago and I was starting to think I would never hear back from them.  What this site allows you to do is watch TV shows and movies.  They’ve got a pretty good selection of shows right now.  Shows from NBC,FOX, as well as others, both currently running and classic are available.  Navigating the site is pretty simple and easy to find what to watch.  The quality of the video was pretty good and I only ran into a buffering issue once in the 3 or 4 shows I’ve watched this far.  Right now the site is free which is good but you do have to sit through some ads when watching a show.  I was viewing the site in linux so the video player would not let me do full screen, so I was a bit disappointed by that.  Overall I was pretty impressed with the site and it’s nice to be able to catch up on some of the shows I’ve missed.  I don’t think this site will catch on with most people though cause they can’t watch the videos on their TV, only on their computer.

It’s magic time

December 16th, 2007

Well I got to check out a magic show last night.   It was pretty cool as I’ve never been to a magic show before.  The show Real Magic featuring Kalin and Jinger.  I’ve seen a lot of magic shows on TV before but it was quite a different experience to see some of the classic magic tricks up close and personal.   There was some slight of hand tricks and the old sawing a woman in half trick.  Mixed in with the tricks there was quite a bit of humor.  It was a good time and I had lots of fun.

The berimbau

December 7th, 2007

I got my first chance to try and play the berimbau tonight. It’s the main instrument that is used when you are playing Capoeira. I must say it’s a little harder to play than it looks. I just tried it for a few minutes so I’m no where near mastering it but it was pretty cool to give it a try.
